Chapter 1 — Returning From The Magic World
by Emily Thomas1 Return
‘What happened?’ Arthur was supposed to be meditating, learning his new spell, but he saw a shoe falling swiftly onto his face.
What made him even more confused, he was unable to move to avoid it, both his legs and arms were being grabbed. And he couldn’t speak because his mouth was gagged with a cloth.
‘Shit!’ he cursed.
Of course, he’s not stupid.
When he saw a few youths, dressed in clothes that were very different from what he saw everyday, he immediately came to a conclusion.
Thousands of years have passed. Maybe it was a very long period of time, but how could he forget his origins, the place where he came from. Especially ever since he became a Great Magus, his memory had already reached such a perfection that he could describe every single thing he had seen since he was born.
‘I have returned to earth, the same day I appeared in the magic world,’ he thought.
“Ouch!”
Right after that, the shoe landed on his face, causing him to scream. And that’s not the only one, there are several other shoes that stepped on his body.
Pain like that wouldn’t affect his mind because he already felt pain thousands of times worse than that. Stabbed, burned, things like that couldn’t make him blink. However, his mortal body couldn’t help but react when his head was stepped on. He knew that he was very weak here.
Only, his anger instantly rose to its highest point. How could he not, he was a being who could shake the sky, burn an empire to ashes, how could he accept a group of mortal youths beat him up.
His blood heating up, he clenched his fists, very tightly to the point where the veins bulged out, from his hands to his neck.
‘Yes, my body is weak, but if I use one hundred percent of my strength, I can still compete with boxers.’
It was a theory that was known to many, that humans only used a small amount of strength from their bodies. Sometimes it increases in a state of urgency. However, he was a Great Magus. Not to mention using one hundred percent strength, he even knows how to use one thousand percent.
The youths were shocked at the striking sights on his hands and neck so they stopped attacking him.
Puh!
He forcefully removed the cloth that was gagged in his mouth by blowing on it.
It was thrown up to a meter in the air, something that was simply astounding.
“Do you want to die, little bastards?” He forcefully withdrew his hands and feet that were being held before standing up.
“What happened?” said their leader, a big bald man. He looked at Arthur in bewilderment. The man he thought was a coward wore an expression as if he was not afraid to even massacre the city.
At the same time, Arthur lunged at him at a speed far too fast for a human.
When he reacted, Arthur’s fist had already landed on his face.
Bam!
It produced a loud crashing sound, the bald man even fell, his head hitting the wall.
“Damn it, what’s wrong with him? Quick, beat him up, don’t let him move!” One of the youths said.
Simultaneously, they jumped towards Arthur.
The latter only smiled faintly yet deadly. He jumped into the air, reaching almost two meters. Then, he kicked them in the face one by one.
Every single one of them he kicked was knocked over, some were even bleeding from their noses.
Neither one tried to get up after the fall, it seemed they were in complete shock.
Arthur, on the other hand, was observing them.
He didn’t know any of them, nor did he know why they had kidnapped him and beat him. His suspicion is that someone at his school has paid them to do it. But he wasn’t sure why because he didn’t feel like he had any enemies.
“Tell me who ordered you?” He asked the bald man.
The latter naturally didn’t reply, something he had expected.
That’s not a problem for him. In the past, he had even forced a dragon to tell him the location of its treasure.
A mortal youth, he thought it only took a little bluff.
There was a long piece of wood, quite thick, sure to break bones.
Arthur took it, without saying anything, he swung the stick at the bald youth’s face.
Bam!
His head seemed to be about to spin, he vomited blood, and immediately fainted.
“You?” His friends were horrified, they were shocked and trembled.
Arthur thought he was hitting too hard, so he shifted his gaze to the others. He said, “is anyone going to tell me? Or will I hit you on the head one by one?”
“Please do not!” One suddenly answered directly, a rather thin youth. Maybe he was afraid of dying instantly if he was hit on the head with a stick like that.
Arthur stared at him, signaling to speak.
“W-we were paid by a man named Alex,” said the thin young man.
“Alex.” Arthur held his chin, remembering a man, tall, good at basketball, liked by many women.
However, he still didn’t know what reason he had for paying people to beat him up.
At this time, he knew that he would not find an answer. He looked at the youths again before walking away.
If it was in the magic world, he would definitely slaughter them, but he was still rational. Different worlds have different rules, overacting before possessing excessive strength can be bad for him.
The place where they had taken him was an empty warehouse, behind shops.
About twenty paces from there, he came to a street.
Seeing the cars and pedestrians in front of him, he couldn’t help but feel strange. His memory was very clear, but he still felt very foreign.
‘However,’
He looked up at the sky with narrowed eyes. Even though it was thin, he could feel the presence of spiritual energy around him. In other words, he can practice magic here.
“Great Wind, if you hear my voice, show me your might,” Arthur said, in a low voice only he could hear.
Right after he said that, several ripples appeared in front of him, almost invisible unless you squinted your eyes.
‘It seems I can still practice self-taught,’ he thought.
If he couldn’t, that meant he had to use potions.
What he did earlier was to see nature’s response after he cast the Basic Spell of Wind Magic. If there is no response, it doesn’t mean the spell is useless, the spell can be used anywhere because wherever there is wind, there is Wind Power. No response simply indicated that the spiritual energy there was too little to be absorbed directly into the body.
Of course, spells aren’t just words either. Anyone can chant it, but to release its power, you need to understand its true meaning, which is very difficult because understanding here is not just understanding the meaning of the words of the spell.
Arthur, as a great magus comprehended more than ten thousand spells, which were imprinted in his memory. Maybe he transmigrated into a different body, but as long as his memory remained, his understanding of every spell would always remain.
‘It’s just, what exactly happened?’ Arthur wondered.
What made him confused was why he had appeared here again.
Actually, he didn’t know why he had appeared in the magic world either. After conducting an investigation without results, he only thought it was due to accidental factors, caused by a certain phenomenon. However, he was already a Great Magus, a truly powerful existence, how could something happen without him noticing.
Unfortunately, he was still unable to conclude anything.
‘I’d better go home first,’ he said to himself, taking a step to the right while looking at his face using his smartphone screen.
There were no scars, just a little bit of dirt which he could clean up directly with his clothes.
This is the City of Vera, one of the first tier cities in Europe. Despite only being in the twentieth place, it is quite spacious and busy.
It took Arthur about 20 minutes to return to his house, which is in the official residence area.
He has no parents anymore, but lives with his aunt and one female cousin.
His aunt is a member of the European Congress. Even though she didn’t have excessive wealth, her position guaranteed them a comfortable life.
The official house itself is almost like a villa, has two floors with a large yard.
Once again looking at the house, Arthur was unsure of how he felt.
He had a different mentality, he was no longer just a young man. Perhaps during his life in the magic world, he still sported the appearance of a young man, but that didn’t change the fact that he had lived for thousands of years, going through many things that only existed in imagination.
“Where have you been, just got home now.” Suddenly he heard a female voice behind him.
He glanced back, found a woman his age, wearing long sweatpants and a tight tanktop.
She had long blonde hair in a ponytail, slightly pale white skin, and a tall slender body with perfect curves.
Her features were pretty enough to compete with top celebrities and there was a uniqueness to her green eyes, they were somewhat cold and serene, giving off the feeling that she was an educated lady.
“Carla!” Arthur said her name spontaneously.
She was his cousin, his aunt’s daughter.
Carla knit her brows when she heard Arthur say her name. She could see that it was spontaneous, which was quite odd. After all, they lived in the same house, their meeting shouldn’t cause either side to be surprised.
However, no matter how calm Arthur’s mind was, it was hard for him to control himself as he looked again at his family. He has no other family apart from Carla and his aunt. Even though there were occasional conflicts between him and Carla, he knew that she thought of him as her beloved brother. When he was sick, she would always look after him while his aunt treated him as if he were her biological son. Therefore, he loved them all his life.
“What’s wrong with you?” Asked Carla.
“Nothing,” Arthur replied, taking a step toward the house, leaving Carla with a confused expression.
He thought he was having a bit of a hard time speaking in a normal way, so he decided to stop talking to her.
As a rule, he is rather quiet and submissive. But in the end, he had lived for thousands of years, standing above countless living beings. Acting like his old self made him feel awkward,— no different than an adult pretending to be a baby.
‘Maybe I should tell them about this,’ Arthur thought.
It was better than having to hide something that might result in a misunderstanding. He prefers the simple way.
The most important thing is to get them to keep a secret. It wouldn’t be difficult for him as long as he became a Magus again because he had a spell, which made it impossible for those weaker than him to divulge every single thing he told them.
