The Null Space creature barely reacted to the moves that the girl was making as she speed blitzed it. Her blows landed like the rapid-fire blasts of a machinegun, but none of them seemed to do anything to sway the beast. It just stood there, allowing each blow to land. "Why isn't it doing anything?" I asked BB under my…

I was steadily becoming surrounded by aliens of all shapes and sizes. There were humanoids, aliens with no legs, aliens with no arms, aliens with three legs and seven arms. All sorts of bodily configurations, and they were all muttering under their breaths about me. Before any of them could ask me any questions or make a move to attack me, if that's what they wanted to do, I made a break for it. I pushed my way through the crowd, using my enhanced strength to shove the extraterrestrial beings out of my…

After my impromptu sparring session with Yr'Arl had reached its conclusion we had both returned to the dorms, where I had decided to catch an early night. A lot had happened through the course of a single day. I'd gained incredible magical powers. I'd spoken to and fought with alien creatures that looked nothing like the humans that I'd been accustomed to back on Earth. I'd even received an AI companion that was helping me through it all. BB said, a pout clear in his voice. His persona really had been…

Yr'Arl strode confidently out into the centre of the room. "It is common knowledge, Jacob Lyre, that you underwent some form of metamorphosis at the closing edge of the Battle Royale," Yr'Arl said, whirling around to face me. "Yeah, I uh…" I was uncertain how to explain the job system, it didn't seem like something that everyone had access to in this universe. "I guess you could say I levelled up?" "It is rare to see someone's manna act in such flexible ways… You show the growth of a newborn babe…

"Try not to take offence, human," the cat said from its position at the oven. "Akash has suffered much at the hands of your race, he finds it hard to overcome those strifes." "Ah, no offence taken," I said in response before allowing myself to slump down onto the nearest beanbag. "I hope my species hasn't done anything bad to your people." The alien flipped whatever it was they were cooking and stayed silent for a moment. "The human race destroyed the third moon of my homeworld as a show of strength, we…

Back in my original world, I had never been particularly popular. It wasn't that I was some social pariah who couldn't interact with anyone else, I was just a little bit awkward. What did that awkwardness translate to? Well, to put it bluntly, having a girl casually sitting in my room like this was frazzling my brain just the slightest amount. "So, we need to talk," the pointy-eared girl said from a chair she had…

The end of the Battle Royale occurred in the opposite way to how it started. A vast rippling in the sky above the battlefield began, shimmering like the surface of a lake. There was no sensation of movement, but somehow the stands were getting closer and larger, and the circumference of the battlefield was clearly shrinking. Magic was so impossibly cool. As we got higher and higher I could hear the cheering of the crowds return, clearly they had enjoyed the show that we had all put on for them. As we…

The Battle Royale was winding down and I still hadn't seen any more opponents, which meant that most if not all of the remaining participants had likely eliminated an enemy from the proceedings. It had looked as if there were about a hundred of us in the hall to begin with and Akash and I had taken out just under 20 people by ourselves. At maximum, there would only be 30 people remaining in the rest of the tournament. In the final 10 minutes of the tournament, I had decided to get some training in with…

Job… system? While I had been an avid gamer in my past life, I'd never really dabbled with MMOs or eastern RPGs, so the concept of a job system was pretty unknown to me. I dismissed the pop up with a thought, either way, now wasn't the best time to be going through my stats and modifying things, I was in the middle of a battle royale. It could wait until I got to safety, whether that be after the battle royale had ended or until I was out of immediate harm's way. I needed to make a move to get out of…

My worry about fighting a group of opponents might have been one that was overstated. Akash had already shown their ability to manipulate multiple vine tendrils at once when I had tried to make my way out of the crater. Now the plant alien used this ability again to devastating effect. Roots sprung up from the ground and wrapped themselves around six of the 20 assailants in an instant. They were anchored in place, completely unable to move, and the perfect pickings for my energy beam. Like when I had…
